Who We Are

Think of a time when you tried to get something you needed and were denied what you needed because of who you are or because of who they thought you were. We can feel powerless in times like these and we can find our voices together.

Sharing our stories of times we’ve been oppressed can be scary and liberating. By utilizing psychodrama and sociodrama tools and techniques, we can create new and empowering roles which support us to face our daily internal and external oppressors.

Through warming up to our strengths and to each other at the Theatre for Social Justice, the roles of the oppressed and the oppressor can be transformed, through acting and re-enacting stories in action, to the roles of self-compassion, compassion and courage as well as to other liberating roles.

As a psychodrama participant, you have the choice to do your own personal growth dramas with the support of a trauma-informed certified psychodramatist and a group.

As a sociodrama participant, you have the choice to be both a spectator and an actor (a “spect-actor”) who collaborates with a trauma-informed certified psychodramatist and a group to co-create a community story.

As a trainee, you can accrue up to 160 training hours towards psychodrama certification and have the choice to direct as a co-director or as an intern with support from a trauma-informed certified psychodramatist.
