Jan is an elder two spirit Métis woman from the Red River Valley /Manitoba Métis,Cree, Anishawnabiah peoples.

She has been involved in social justice issues: anti -racism, women's rights, queer rights, environmental justice issues throughout her life.

More recently as a member of the Legacy of Liberation Collective, she collaborated with The Theater for Social Justice to organize and facilitate BIPOC workshops at AGSPP conferences as well as participating in a range of online workshops. She also assisted in co-leading and hosting the first ever BIPOC Retreat in  Whidbey Washington in 2025.
